Suminagashi
Suminagashi, meaning "floating ink," is an ancient Japanese paper marbling technique that creates intricate, swirling patterns on paper. Artists drip liquid ink onto water, where it spreads and floats. By gently manipulating the ink with tools or blowing air, they produce unique, flowing designs. Once the pattern is set, a sheet of paper is carefully laid on the water’s surface, transferring the ink design onto it. Suminagashi’s delicate, organic patterns often resemble natural elements like ripples, waves, or clouds, making each piece a one-of-a-kind artwork.
