Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis)
The Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) is a small, heavily built rhinoceros native to Indonesia. It has thick, hair-covered skin and two small horns on its snout. As the most endangered of the rhinoceros species, it faces threats from habitat loss and poaching. Sumatran rhinos typically live in dense forests and are solitary creatures. They are herbivores, feeding on leaves, shoots, and fruits. Conservation efforts focus on habitat protection and breeding programs to prevent extinction, as fewer than 80 individuals are believed to remain in the wild.
