The Sultanate of Selangor is a traditional monarchy in the Malaysian state of Selangor, where the Sultan serves as the constitutional ruler and cultural figurehead. Established in 1742, it operates within Malaysia’s constitutional framework, balancing royal authority with democratic governance. The Sultan performs ceremonial duties, represents the state, and has influence in areas like religion and customs. Although political power is shared with elected leaders, the Sultan holds significant social and cultural importance. The current Sultan, as of 2023, is Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
