Sullivan Brothers
The Sullivan Brothers were five siblings from Iowa who served together in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Tragically, all five died when their ship, the USS Juneau, was sunk by a Japanese submarine in 1942. Their loss drew national attention and led to changes in military policy, including the end of the practice of assigning entire families to serve aboard the same ship to prevent such tragedies in the future. The brothers' sacrifice symbolized extraordinary family loyalty and patriotism, inspiring memorials and honoring their legacy.
