Sulla (Lucius Cornelius Sulla)
Lucius Cornelius Sulla was a Roman general and statesman who lived from 138 to 78 BCE. He rose to prominence through military success and political influence, becoming Rome’s dictator. Sulla is known for his role in the late Roman Republic’s power struggles, notably his civil war against his rivals like Julius Caesar. He implemented significant reforms to strengthen the Senate and limit popular assemblies' power, aiming to restore tradition and stability. His rule was marked by a purge of political enemies and a temporary redistribution of power from the populares (common people) to the aristocratic optimates (elite).
