Sulfamethoxazole

Sulfamethoxazole is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It works by stopping bacteria from producing folic acid, which they need to grow and multiply. Because it targets bacteria specifically, it helps your immune system eliminate the infection more effectively. Often combined with other antibiotics like trimethoprim (known as co-trimoxazole), it treats urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and certain types of diarrhea. It's important to use Sulfamethoxazole exactly as prescribed and complete the full course to prevent bacteria from becoming resistant. While generally effective, it can cause side effects and is not suitable for everyone, especially those allergic to sulfa drugs.
