Suiko (Empress Suiko)

Empress Suiko was Japan’s first recorded reigning empress, ruling from 592 to 628 CE. She was part of the ancient Yamato royal family and became ruler after the death of her brother, acting as a regent for her young nephew. Her reign marked the beginning of a centralized imperial government influenced by Chinese political ideas, and she supported Buddhism's spread in Japan. Suiko’s leadership helped stabilize the country during a period of political change and set important precedents for future female rulers in Japan.
