Suharto regime
The Suharto regime refers to the period when Suharto ruled Indonesia from 1967 to 1998. He came to power after a period of political chaos and military upheaval, establishing a centralized authoritarian government. Suharto's rule was marked by economic growth and development, but also by corruption, human rights abuses, and suppression of political opposition. His regime maintained control through a strong military presence and limited political freedoms. After nearly 31 years in power, widespread protests and economic crises led to his resignation, ending the New Order era and ushering in democratic reforms.
