Suffragan Bishops

A suffragan bishop is a bishop who assists a primary bishop, such as a diocesan or diocesan bishop, within a specific geographical area or department of the church. Unlike the main bishop who oversees the entire diocese, a suffragan bishop supports the main bishop’s responsibilities, often focusing on particular regions or functions. They have episcopal authority but operate under the direction of the diocese’s chief bishop. This structure helps the church manage large or complex areas more effectively, providing leadership, pastoral care, and administrative oversight where needed.
