Succession

Succession refers to the process through which one ecological community gradually replaces another over time. This occurs after a disturbance, like a fire or human activity, alters an environment. There are two main types: primary succession, which starts in lifeless areas (like after a volcanic eruption), and secondary succession, which happens in previously occupied areas that were disturbed (like a forest after a fire). Over time, plants and animals gradually reintroduce themselves, leading to a more stable ecosystem. Succession highlights the dynamic nature of ecosystems and their ability to recover and evolve.
