Subvocalization

Subvocalization is the silent inner voice or the act of silently "speaking" words in your mind as you read or think. It involves slightly moving your throat muscles, creating faint sounds that are typically unnoticed. This process helps with understanding and retention, allowing you to process language internally. While it can slow down reading speed, it also supports comprehension and focus. Many people subvocalize naturally, especially when reading complex material, but some techniques aim to reduce it to read more quickly.
