In mathematics, a subspace is a smaller section within a larger space, like a room inside a house, that still retains the same overall properties. For example, in three-dimensional space, a flat surface like a sheet of paper is a subspace because it exists within the larger space but is still a complete, self-contained area. Subspaces follow specific rules: they contain the zero point, and anything added or scaled within them stays inside.
