Subglottic Stenosis
Subglottic stenosis is a condition where the area below the vocal cords (the subglottic space) becomes narrowed due to scar tissue, swelling, or abnormal growth. This narrowing canblock airflow, leading to breathing difficulties, especially during exertion or total obstruction in severe cases. It can result from long-term intubation, infections, injuries, or surgeries. Symptoms often include noisy breathing, difficulty breathing, or a sensation of tightness in the throat. Treatment varies depending on severity and cause, ranging from medications and minimally invasive procedures to surgery to enlarge or remove the obstructed tissue.
