Subculture theory

Subculture theory suggests that within the larger society, smaller groups—called subcultures—develop their own unique values, beliefs, and behaviors. These groups form around shared interests, identities, or experiences, often differentiating themselves from mainstream culture. Sometimes, subcultures emerge as a way for members to express individuality, challenge societal norms, or find belonging. While they can foster positive creativity and community, they may also be associated with deviant behaviors depending on their norms.
