Subacromial Space

The subacromial space is the area beneath the acromion, a bony part of the shoulder blade, and above the rotator cuff tendons and the bursa (a small fluid-filled cushion). It is important because it allows the shoulder's tendons to move smoothly when raising or rotating your arm. When this space becomes narrowed due to injury, inflammation, or structural changes, it can cause shoulder pain and limit movement, often leading to a condition called impingement syndrome. Maintaining the proper size and health of this space is essential for comfortable shoulder function.
