STS-49

STS-49 was a NASA space shuttle mission launched in May 1992 aboard Endeavour. Its main goal was to capture and repair the International Telecommunications Satellite (INTELSAT VI-3), which was stranded in orbit after its launch. The crew used a special extended robotic arm and hand to clinch the satellite, attach new parts, and carefully bring it back to the shuttle. This was the first time astronauts performed a multi-step repair of a satellite in space, demonstrating advanced spacewalk and robotic techniques that helped improve future satellite servicing missions.
