Stringwalking
Stringwalking is a technique used by string musicians, such as violinists and cellists, to smoothly shift their bow position along the string. Instead of stopping the bow and repositioning, the player gradually moves ("walks") the bow through different parts of the string while maintaining continuous contact. This creates seamless transitions between notes, producing a fluid, connected sound. Stringwalking requires precise control of bow pressure and speed, allowing musicians to explore expressive phrasing and smooth tone changes without interruption. It is a valuable skill for achieving lyrical and legato (smooth) playing in their performances.
