Stratus

A stratus cloud is a low-altitude cloud that forms a uniform, gray layer across the sky, often resembling a blanket or fog close to the ground. Typically found below 6,000 feet, these clouds develop when a large, moist air mass cools and condenses near the surface. They usually bring overcast conditions and light, continuous precipitation like drizzle or light rain. Stratus clouds are common in stable weather conditions and can lead to fog formation when resting on the ground, impacting visibility but rarely producing severe weather.
