Stolen Generations (Australia)
The Stolen Generations refer to the period in Australian history when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were forcibly removed from their families by government authorities and church missions. This policy, active mainly between the late 19th and mid-20th centuries, aimed to assimilate Indigenous children into white Australian society. Many children lost their cultural identity, language, and connection to their communities, experiencing significant emotional and social trauma. The Stolen Generations is now recognized as a grave injustice, with ongoing efforts toward reconciliation, healing, and acknowledgment of the impacts on Indigenous peoples.
