Stolen Generation (Australia)

The Stolen Generations refers to the period when Australian government policies forcibly removed Indigenous children from their families, starting in the late 19th century and lasting until the 1970s. These children, often called "stolen" because they were taken without consent, were placed in institutions or with non-Indigenous families. The aim was to assimilate them into Western culture, which caused lasting trauma, loss of cultural identity, and disconnection from their communities. This historical practice is now recognized as a deeply damaging chapter in Australia’s history, highlighting ongoing efforts for reconciliation and recognition of Indigenous rights.
