Stimming

Stimming, short for self-stimulatory behavior, refers to repetitive actions or movements that individuals often engage in to regulate their sensory input or emotional states. Common examples include rocking, hand-flapping, or repeating sounds. While sometimes associated with autism spectrum disorder, stimming is a natural way for many people to manage stress, focus, or sensory overload, providing comfort and sensory organization. It varies greatly among individuals and can be a helpful coping mechanism, offering a sense of control or calm during challenging situations.
