Stice Model
The Stice Model explains how certain factors contribute to eating disorders. It suggests that societal pressures to be thin lead individuals to develop thin ideals, which then influence them to focus heavily on body image. This can result in negative feelings about their bodies, prompting behaviors like dieting or extreme weight control. These behaviors may increase vulnerability to eating disorders, especially if combined with internal conflicts, genetics, or emotional issues. Essentially, the model shows a chain reaction: societal influences shape beliefs, which affect emotions and behaviors, ultimately impacting someone's risk of developing an eating disorder.
