Steven Biko

Steven Biko was a South African anti-apartheid activist and leader of the Black Consciousness Movement during the 1960s and 1970s. He advocated for black pride, self-awareness, and resistance against racial discrimination imposed by the apartheid system. Biko’s efforts aimed to empower black South Africans politically, socially, and psychologically. His activism contributed significantly to the broader struggle for equality and justice in South Africa. Tragically, he was detained and died in police custody in 1977, becoming a symbol of resistance and the fight against racial oppression.
