Steve Biko

Steve Biko was a South African anti-apartheid activist and leader who fought against racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa during the 1960s and 1970s. He founded the Black Consciousness Movement, which aimed to empower black people to recognize their self-worth and challenge systemic inequality. Biko emphasized the importance of black pride and cultural identity as tools for resistance. His efforts contributed significantly to the broader struggle against apartheid, and he is remembered as a symbol of resistance and human rights. Biko was tragically killed in police custody in 1977, becoming an iconic figure in the fight for justice.
