STEREO (Solar and Terrestrial Relations Observatory)
STEREO (Solar and Terrestrial Relations Observatory) is a set of two spacecraft launched by NASA to study the Sun and its effects on Earth. Positioned in different orbits around the Sun, they provide 3D, detailed images and data of solar activities like solar flares and coronal mass ejections. This helps scientists understand how solar storms develop and travel, improving space weather forecasts that can affect satellites, power grids, and communication on Earth. STEREO’s observations enhance our knowledge of the Sun’s magnetic environment and its influence on our planet.
