Stent-Assisted Coiling
Stent-assisted coiling is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat brain aneurysms—bulging, weakened areas in blood vessel walls. A small tube called a stent is placed inside the blood vessel to create a new passageway, providing support. Then, tiny coils are inserted into the aneurysm through a catheter, encouraging blood clotting inside it to prevent rupture. The stent helps keep the coils in place and maintains normal blood flow, reducing the risk of the aneurysm bleeding. This combined approach is especially useful for complex or wide-neck aneurysms that are difficult to treat with coils alone.
