STEMI

STEMI stands for ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction, a severe type of heart attack. It occurs when a blood clot blocks one of the heart's main arteries, preventing blood from reaching a part of the heart muscle. This blockage leads to damage or death of the heart tissue. The term "ST-Elevation" refers to specific changes observed on an electrocardiogram (ECG) that indicate significant heart damage. A STEMI requires immediate medical attention, usually through medications to dissolve the clot or procedures to restore blood flow, as timely treatment is crucial for minimizing heart damage.
