Stellar population

Stellar populations refer to groups of stars within a galaxy that share common characteristics, mainly their age and chemical composition. Astronomers classify these into different populations, such as Population I stars, which are younger and rich in elements heavier than hydrogen and helium, often found in the galaxy's disk. Population II stars are older, with fewer heavy elements, typically located in the galaxy's halo and core. Studying these groups helps scientists understand how galaxies formed and evolved over billions of years.
