Stellar classifications

Stellar classifications categorize stars based on their spectral characteristics, primarily their surface temperature and color. They use a letter system from O to M, with O being the hottest, blue stars, and M being the coolest, red stars. Within each letter, numbers from 0 to 9 further specify temperature details. For example, a star labeled G2, like our Sun, is a moderate temperature star. These classifications help astronomers understand a star’s properties, such as size, brightness, and stage in its lifecycle, providing insight into the diversity and evolution of stars in the universe.
