steel making

Steel making is the process of transforming raw materials like iron ore, coal, and limestone into steel, a strong and versatile metal. First, iron ore is heated in a blast furnace with coke (a form of coal) and limestone, producing molten iron. This molten iron is then refined in a converter or electric furnace to remove impurities and add other elements to achieve desired properties. The resulting liquid steel is poured into molds or cast into slabs, sheets, or bars. Throughout, precise control of temperature and composition ensures the steel meets specific strength, ductility, and durability standards for various applications.
