steatosis

Steatosis, commonly called fatty liver, occurs when excess fat builds up in the liver cells. This condition can result from factors like obesity, high alcohol intake, poor diet, or certain medical conditions. The accumulation of fat can impair the liver’s ability to function properly, affecting processes such as detoxification, metabolism, and blood sugar regulation. While early stages may cause no symptoms, persistent steatosis can lead to inflammation, liver damage, or more serious conditions like cirrhosis. Managing underlying causes through lifestyle changes, such as healthy eating and reducing alcohol, can often reverse or improve the condition.
