Statin resistance

Statin resistance occurs when some individuals do not experience the expected decrease in cholesterol levels despite taking statin medications as prescribed. This can be due to genetic factors, lifestyle, or other health conditions that affect how the body processes or responds to the medication. As a result, the medication may be less effective in lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Managing statin resistance might involve adjusting the dosage, trying different types of cholesterol-lowering medications, or making lifestyle changes to better control cholesterol levels.
