State-owned enterprise
A state-owned enterprise (SOE) is a business or company owned and operated by the government. Its purpose is often to provide essential services like transportation, utilities, or natural resources, or to support economic development. Unlike private companies, SOEs are funded and controlled by the government, which influences their decisions and objectives. They aim to serve the public interest and often balance profit-making with social or strategic goals. Examples include national airlines, public rail systems, and energy companies owned by the government.
