State Farm (Sovkhoz)
State Farm (Sovkhoz) was a government-owned farm system in the Soviet Union where land and resources were collectively owned. Unlike private farms, Sovkhozy operated as state enterprises, with workers paid wages, and their production managed centrally. They aimed to produce large quantities of crops and livestock to meet state goals, often regardless of market demand. Sovkhozy played a key role in the USSR’s agricultural sector, emphasizing collectivization to control food production, though they sometimes faced inefficiencies and shortages due to centralized planning and lack of individual incentives.
