STAT4

STAT4 is a protein that plays a key role in the immune system by helping certain cells communicate and respond to signals, especially those involved in inflammation and fighting infections. When a signaling molecule called a cytokine binds to its receptor on a cell, STAT4 gets activated, moves into the cell's nucleus, and helps turn on specific genes. This process helps immune cells develop and coordinate their actions. Proper functioning of STAT4 is important for a healthy immune response, but variations or issues with STAT4 can be linked to autoimmune diseases, where the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues.
