Standardbred Training
Standardbred training involves preparing horses, primarily used for harness racing, to develop strength, speed, and stamina. Trainers work on the horse’s gait, focusing on the gait called "trot" or "pace," ensuring they move efficiently and smoothly. Training includes daily exercise, proper nutrition, and health care, with gradual increases in workload to prevent injury. Regular practice on the track builds the horse’s racing skills and confidence. Good training balances physical conditioning, mental stimulation, and proper handling to produce a reliable, competitive racehorse.
