Standard Temperature and Pressure (STP)
Standard Temperature and Pressure (STP) is a set of reference conditions used in chemistry to compare gases. It is defined as a temperature of 0°C (273.15 K) and a pressure of 1 atmosphere (atm). At STP, one mole of an ideal gas occupies approximately 22.4 liters. These fixed conditions allow scientists to easily compare gas behaviors and calculations, providing a common basis for experiments and measurements. STP helps ensure consistency and accuracy when discussing or analyzing gases in scientific contexts.
