Stages of Group Development
The stages of group development describe how a group forms and becomes effective. First, in the "forming" stage, members get to know each other and establish initial roles. Next, during "storming," conflicts and disagreements may surface as members assert themselves. In the "norming" stage, the group starts to cooperate and develop shared norms and trust. Then, in the "performing" phase, the group works efficiently towards its goals. Finally, some models include an "adjourning" stage, where the group dissolves after completing its task. These stages help groups evolve smoothly from formation to productivity.
