Stages of DTM
The Demographic Transition Model (DTM) describes how populations change over time through four stages. Stage 1 has high birth and death rates, so populations stay stable. In Stage 2, death rates drop due to better healthcare, causing population growth. Stage 3 sees birth rates fall as families choose smaller families, slowing growth. In Stage 4, both birth and death rates are low, stabilizing the population. Some regions enter Stage 5, where birth rates decline below death rates, leading to population decline. Overall, the model shows how health, economy, and social changes influence population sizes over time.
