Staged Excision

Staged excision is a technique used in Mohs micrographic surgery, primarily for treating skin cancer. In this process, the surgeon removes a thin layer of cancerous skin and immediately examines it under a microscope to check for any remaining cancer cells. If necessary, they remove another layer, repeating this until no cancer is detected. This method ensures that all cancerous tissue is removed while preserving as much healthy skin as possible, promoting better healing and cosmetic results. It allows for precise treatment tailored to each patient's specific situation.
