St. Thomas Christians
The St. Thomas Christians are a Christian community indigenous to India, particularly the southwestern coastal region of Kerala. They trace their origins to the apostles, traditionally believed to have established the church in India in the 1st century. They follow a liturgical tradition rooted in ancient Syrian Christianity and have historically maintained a unique blend of Indian culture and Christian faith. Over centuries, they have experienced various influences and divisions, resulting in different denominations such as the Syro-Malabar and Syriac Orthodox. Today, they represent a vibrant, historically significant Christian community that maintains distinctive religious practices and cultural identity within India.
