St. Peter's Field
St. Peter's Field was a public square in Manchester, England, where a peaceful protest of agricultural workers gathered in August 1819 to demand better rights and conditions. The protest turned tragic when cavalry charges, intended to disperse the crowd, resulted in a violent massacre, with many injuries and deaths. This event highlighted the tense social and political unrest of the time and contributed to the push for reform. The massacre is sometimes called the "Peterloo Massacre" as a grim pun on the Battle of Waterloo, reflecting the scale of violence inflicted on the protesters.
