St. Olav (King of Norway)

St. Olav, also known as King Olaf II of Norway, was a king during the early 11th century who played a crucial role in the Christianization of Norway. He reigned around 1015 to 1028 and is celebrated for unifying the country under Christianity and establishing the Norwegian church. Olav's efforts made him a national hero and martyr; he died during a battle at Stiklestad in 1030. Posthumously, he was canonized as a saint, and his legacy deeply influenced Norway’s religious and cultural history. He is honored as Norway’s national saint and the patron of the nation.
