St. Louis Encephalitis outbreak
St. Louis Encephalitis (SLE) is a viral illness spread primarily through mosquito bites, especially in late summer and early fall. It can cause symptoms ranging from mild flu-like illness to severe neurological issues, such as encephalitis. Outbreaks occur when mosquito populations infected with the virus increase, often in areas with standing water that provides breeding sites. Public health efforts focus on mosquito control and reducing exposure. Most people infected experience mild symptoms or none at all, but vulnerable populations like the elderly are at higher risk for serious disease.
