St. John de Brébeuf

St. John de Brébeuf was a French Jesuit priest and missionary in the 17th century who dedicated his life to converting Indigenous peoples in North America, particularly in what is now Canada. Known for his deep faith and courage, he learned local languages and customs to build understanding and trust. Despite facing significant hardships, including harsh environments and resistance, he worked tirelessly until his death in 1649, when he was martyred by Iroquois warriors. He is remembered for his devotion, linguistic skills, and sacrifice, and was canonized as a saint in the Catholic Church in 1930.
