St. Bernard of Clairvaux (Saint)

St. Bernard of Clairvaux (1090–1153) was a French abbot and key figure in the Cistercian monastic reform. He founded Clairvaux Abbey and emphasized the importance of monastic life, prayer, and divine love. Known for his eloquent sermons and writings, he influenced Christian spirituality and theology, particularly regarding devotion to the Virgin Mary. St. Bernard also played a role in the Second Crusade, advocating for its importance. He was canonized as a saint in 1174 and is remembered for his deep faith, advocacy for the poor, and intellectual contributions to medieval Christianity.
