SS Great Eastern (steamship)

The SS Great Eastern was a massive iron steamship built in the 1850s by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It was designed to carry passengers and goods across oceans more efficiently than sailing ships, featuring a powerful steam engine and a very large hull. At approximately 690 feet long, it was the largest ship of its time, capable of crossing the Atlantic without stopping for fuel or supplies. Although innovative, its size initially made it difficult to operate profitably. Today, it is remembered as a pioneering vessel that pushed the boundaries of maritime engineering and helped lay the groundwork for future large ocean liners.
