SS Great Eastern
The SS Great Eastern was a massive iron sailing steamship built in the 1850s by engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It was designed to carry passengers and cargo across oceans, notably on the longest transatlantic routes. At the time, it was the largest ship ever constructed, featuring a length of about 692 feet and capable of carrying thousands of people. Its innovative design combined sails and engines, making it a pioneer in maritime technology. Although it faced financial challenges and was used mainly for laying cables later in its life, the SS Great Eastern remains a symbol of engineering ingenuity and maritime history.
