.srt file format specification
An .srt (SubRip Subtitle) file is a plain text format used to display subtitles alongside videos. It consists of sequentially numbered subtitle entries, each with a start and end time indicating when the text appears and disappears. The times are formatted as hours:minutes:seconds, milliseconds (e.g., 00:01:23,456). Following the timing, the actual subtitle text appears, which can include multiple lines. This structure repeats for each subtitle segment. .srt files are widely supported because they are simple, human-readable, and easy to edit, providing synchronized captions for videos.
