Srikrishna Commission

The Srikrishna Commission was set up by the Indian government in 1991 to investigate the causes and events surrounding the Bombay (Mumbai) riots that occurred earlier that year. The riots, which involved violent clashes between different communities, resulted in significant loss of life and property. The commission aimed to uncover the underlying factors, the role of various groups, and the police response, to promote accountability and prevent future violence. Its findings helped inform policies on communal harmony and law enforcement, though some reports and recommendations have been subject to debate and controversy over their conclusions.
